Fire District Information

The Mt. Zion Fire Protection District operates as a professional organization, which is proud to serve the community. Established in 1946, as a Volunteer Fire Department, with 30 active Volunteer Firefighters and now three full time (24/48 hour shift) and six part time employees. The District encompasses 42 sq. miles, serving the Village of Mt. Zion and Mt. Zion Township (pop. 7,000) The Fire District provides Fire Suppression, Rescue and Emergency Medical Services (Advanced Life Support level) while operating 10 pieces of Fire Apparatus from 1 Fire Station and responds to over 700 Emergency and Non-Emergency calls for service annually.

Mt. Zion firefighters were called the assist the nearby community of Harristown on a structure fire Saturday evening. The HFD requested our ladder platform. The ladder tower was used to extinguish the fire in the attic of the large home.

Mt. Zion firefighters train in the cold for ice related emergencies. Simulated person who fell through the ice. We put on ice rescue suits tied to a rope and use a rescue harness to pull the victim to shore.
